Scholars Schedule a Chat with Staff

Mitchell Institute staff are eager to connect with Scholars and Alumni about a broad range of questions and issues — everything from choosing a major, exploring internships and career opportunities, and applying to grad school to adjusting to college, finding housing, and resolving roommate conflicts. You name it, we’re game to help! And while we may not have all of the answers, we can help connect you with the people and resources you need.

Casey Near, Scholarship Director
(she/her)

Happy to chat about: all Mitchell Institute programs and events; connecting you with alumni and other Scholars; navigating college resources and declaring a major; transferring; finding community in college, study abroad and travel, moving out of state (I’m originally from California!), reading, soccer + basketball, being unsure about your future.

Andrea Mitchell, Programs Manager
(she/her)

Happy to chat about: Mitchell Institute Support Funds (SOS & SPARC), The Fellowship Program, The Odyssey Fund, social work programs, resources for mental health support, community & financial assistance (and dogs, cats, or any other pets you have). Also, the go-to person for Mitchell Institute Bonney/Promise Scholars.

Adam Thibodeau, Scholarship Operations Manager
(he/him)

Happy to chat about: scholarship payment questions, our scholarship application, connecting with Scholar Alumni, theater (careers and otherwise), nonprofits, bakeries, board games, and lots more! Studied at UMaine, and grew up in central Maine, so eager to talk with Scholars at Thomas, Colby, or KVCC, too.

Kristen Case, Scholar Research and Grants Manager
(she/her)

Happy to chat about: classes, professors, majors, writing assignments (all areas but especially the humanities), graduate school and graduate school applications, post-graduation plans, creative work and life, existential angst, imposter syndrome, big dreams, poetry.

Alex Carrier Hitchcox, Scholar & Donor Events Manager
(she/her)

Happy to chat about: Mitchell Institute events and event planning generally, getting involved on campus and making friends, starting and/or running a student organization, internships/career planning, stress/burnout/self-care, trying new things, yoga, cats, and Taylor Swift.
